OUR STORY

RUTH OBUYANZI MACTOLO (28/07/1948 – 08/12/2025)

Ruth Obuyanzi Mactolo was a dedicated educator whose life’s work was grounded in a deep belief in the transformative power of education. As a teacher by profession, she consistently went beyond the call of duty to ensure that children from needy and vulnerable backgrounds could access learning opportunities. Her commitment extended far beyond the classroom, as she made personal sacrifices and actively mobilized support from her community, her church, and the schools where she served to mentor, guide, and uplift learners. Even after her retirement, Ruth’s passion for education did not wane. Through her small business in Bungoma town, she initiated a sanitary towels program aimed at supporting girls to remain in school, addressing one of the silent barriers to girls’ education. Though she passed on before fully witnessing the growth of her vision, her unwavering commitment to education and her deep passion for the girl child continue to live on through the work of Obuyanzi Foundation CBO.

Founder & Chairperson

Pamela Mactolo

Pamela Mactolo is the Founder and Chairperson of Obuyanzi Foundation CBO, where she provides strategic leadership and champions access to education for vulnerable learners across rural Bungoma County. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, bringing strong governance, accountability, and strategic direction to the Foundation. Pamela’s commitment to education is deeply rooted in the legacy of her late mother, Ruth Obuyanzi, whose lifelong service to needy learners shaped her values from an early age. Growing up, Pamela was actively involved in community initiatives, including mobilizing donations of books and clothing for orphanages and participating in various charitable programs. Since 2011, she has played a leading role in identifying and supporting vulnerable learners throughout Bungoma County. She also supported the growth and expansion of the Girls Stay in School sanitary towels initiative started by Mama Obuyanzi. What began as small, informal fundraising efforts gradually revealed the depth of need within the community, prompting the establishment of Obuyanzi Foundation as a more structured and sustainable response. As Founder and Chairperson, Pamela leads resource mobilization, partnerships, and program oversight to ensure that the Foundation remains impactful, accountable, and responsive to community needs.
